HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN E-LIQUID (TUTORIAL)

STARTING OUT WITH DIY E-LIQUID FLAVOUR CONCENTRATES

Most people find it hard to find that perfect e-liquid.  It's a common problem amongst vapers, and a lot of us get very frustrated at the fact we are spending a lot of money on something we don’t like. This in most cases is what leads us to the choice of taking up mixing for ourselves. In this tutorial we will give you tips on how to make your own e-liquid in the convenience of your own home.

Mixing e-liquid can be very daunting when starting out, but in reality it is a very simple thing to do. Perfecting a recipe is difficult, but the actual process of mixing e-liquid itself is not hard at all. The majority of us will start out mixing one shots and the reason for this is all the hard work is done for us with the recipe.  One shots are blended recipes in concentrate form, and is the most simple way to begin your journey into mixing.

What Do I Need To Begin?

Your initial cost will be a little higher, as you’ll need to purchase all the necessary supplies to get you started. Here is a checklist to get you on your way:

  • Base Ingredients - Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin, a litre of each will get you started
  • Concentrates - you can use one shots or single flavour concentrates
  • Nicotine (optional) - only needed if you want your juice to contain nicotine
  • Empty Bottles - bottles are needed for mixing your latest creation into
  • Beakers (optional) - beakers are good for measuring out your base ingredients
  • Syringes (optional) - a lot of mixers use syringes for measuring out their flavourings
  • Digital Pocket Scale (optional) - some people prefer to mix everything by weight, which has less clean up afterwards and is very accurate
  • Mixing Calculator - a mixing tool is a must to give you correct measurements for each component

Mixing One Shots

Ok, let’s begin with mixing one shots.  Once you’ve got all your supplies and have chosen which one shot you are going to try out first, it’s time to take the plunge!

First thing we need to do is add all of our components into our chosen mixing calculator. I’m going to use ELR’s mixing tool in this guide.  The one shot I’m going to mix is Nom Bongo, which is one of our own flavours, and I’m going to mix it at the recommended amount which is 15%.

Here I have entered the recipe name, how much finished e-liquid I want to make, the strength of nicotine I want my finished juice to be, my desired PG/VG ratio, the strength of nicotine I used when mixing and the PG/VG content of the nicotine used.

Now I add the flavour percentage, and as I stated earlier I'm mixing Nom Bongo at 15%.

So here it is added to the calculator. As you can see I've set the flavour name to Nom Bongo and the mix % is 15. Underneath this, you have a checkbox option, this allows you to add what the flavouring's carrier is. Which in most cases is PG, but if you find a flavour you have purchased is VG based or a mixture of PG & VG, you can tick that instead.  Below that you can add any other flavourings you'd like and jot down any notes you want to make about the flavour.

That's us all set! If you scroll down the page on the calculator you will find your recipe, and the amounts of each ingredient needed to mix up your own e-liquid.

As you can see from the image, ELR's mixing calculator gives you measurements for both mls and grams.  It's really down to your personal preference on which you will use.

MIXING RECIPES

In this section of our guide on how to make your own e-Liquid at home, we talk about recipe building. So in principle, creating your own recipe is much like mixing a one shot. The difference is, with a recipe you are combining various flavours to give you what you want. What makes it more difficult is finding the flavours you need to make that perfect strawberries & cream for example.

Recipe building will take time and patience, but in the end is very beneficial to you because once you have perfected a recipe, you'll be vaping something you love each and every time you mix it up. And the bonus is you will save so much compared to buying premade e-Liquids.

We have everything you need to start you on your mixing journey available on the site, and we can help you as best as we can. If you have any questions about mixing at home, please do not hesitate to contact us.
